Calendar Days!

Hello my friends and Happy Martin Luther King Day to you all (for those in the US)!  Since it's a holiday in the US that means quite a few of us have off today---well since I work from home I NEVER have a day off, LOL, with laundry, cooking, animals, kids, etc!  But that's pretty much the routine for most of us right, we fit it in when we can!  But kids and hubby are home today so I don't really know how much work I'll get done, hee hee!  Riley is still sick but stable so I'm hoping he's on his way to recovery---our goal is to keep him from getting pneumonia right now.  Thankfully he has a 3 day weekend plus he stayed home on Friday, so the rest was good for him.  This week is also mid-terms for my daughter so she's a studying fool right now :) She has 1/2 days all week (oh boy help me) so we'll see how that goes---she likes to BUG me while I'm working, LOL as if I'm solely here for her entertainment!!  But I've got a lot to get done before I leave for Nashville this Friday to teach my Copic Class so I gotta keep my nose to the grindstone, LOL!  And if I HAPPEN to run into Tim McGraw while in Nashville, you'll hear my screech across the country 'kay?  :)

April Showers, Bring MAY Flowers!!

Today the Magnolia-licious DT has a fabulous Blog Hop for you all today!  Our fellow DT sistah Angie Hunt had a fabulous idea late in summer for our DT to create a 2011 Calendar for our divine lady-leader Diana Crick for Christmas--owner extraordinaire of Magnolia-licious!  So all of us on the DT created 1 or 2 months for the calendar and then Angie put it all together for us and sent it off.  I hope Diana enjoys each month of 2011 flipping the calendar open to a new month designed and created especially for her!  I know I had a ton of fun creating this "MAY" page for her!

So you can find all the Blog Hop Details at the Magnolia-licious Highlites Blog HERE with the blog hop order and how to join in on the fun.  Make sure to read thru my post to find out who to hop to next and maybe a sweet treat for you as well!

I got to create a "MAY" page for the calendar which happens to be my favorite month because it's always beautiful springtime and my birthday month, LOL!  Every image except the sentiment is a Magnolia stamp from Magnolia-licious!  The entire page is 8x8" which gave me lots of room to play! The lil' flowers were made with my Nellie Snellen punches, layered together and then a pretty pearl put in the centers.  To create the landscape I used the "Summer Background" (I couldn't find it at the store, but there is a similar background here)--I actually cut it into pieces (gasp, lol).  That way I could stamp the grassy knoll a few times and stamp the clouds and sun wherever I wanted--a good way to use this stamp for larger scenes.  I just put the pieces in a baggie so they are all together for safe-keeping!

This is one of my favorite Tilda as she's perfect for spring AND holding my fave flower TULIPS, lol!  She is called "Tilda with Three Flowers"--she's a little beauty and perfect to sit on the knoll.  All of my images and background was colored with Copics.  Her shoes got Diamond Glaze and the top of her dress and tulips have stardust Stickles on them.

This cutie-pie is "Tilda Picking Lilacs" (I couldn't find her at Magnolia-licious but if you request her I'm sure Diana can get more in since spring is right around the corner).  I paper pieced her dress with papers from my DCWV Collection that I used for the background paper as well.  Always shade your paper piecing so it matches the rest of your images--I shaded with Copics right on top of my paper.  I made the "lilacs" more into wildflowers, lol, by adding yellow Flower Soft to them.  All of my images were popped up on the page with dimensionals.

The tree is called "Oak Tree" and I only stamped part of it on the page and colored with Copics.  I sprinkled my flowers I made across the page using the same colored cardstocks from PTI.  The cute lil' birdies are called "Tilda's Birds" and they are from the Spring Collection 2008 and I've had them for awhile--I love their chubby little bodies :)

The sentiment I made on my computer and then printed out directly on my cardstock--very appropriate for May me thinks!  For my butterfly I used a MS punch but Magnolia makes some really cute butterflies and bees too!

So that concludes the tour around my "May Calendar" page for you, LOL!  Hope you enjoyed it!

So my Sweet Treat for you is a Blank Keepsake Calendar (8x8), a paper pad of K&Company "Wild Raspberry",  and 2 Magnolia stamps of your choice from Magnolia-licious!
Just answer this question "When Spring arrives, what is the first thing you like to do?"
Answer that question by Saturday, Jan.22nd and winner will be announced on next Monday!

Now your next magnificent stop on this Blog Hop is MINDY's BLOG HERE and she's sure to have some wonderful pages to share with you!  Don't forget to stop by the Magnolia-licious Highlites Blog as well to see the details on how to join in!

  1. Suzanne ohh so happy to see this project , give me such a warm and happy feeling in this cold morning.
I am with some sort of flu and feel so not well. But now after I saw this happy spring scene ohhh boy I just want to be Spring........, then I am going outside every morning and take long walk with a cup of coffee, looking at the flowers. In the Spring here outside is amazing everywhere you can see tulips and daffodils.
    Have a happy day.
Get well soon (for your son!)

First of all your Calendar page for the gift for Diana is FABUOLOUS! I love the scene you created. WONDERFUL!
My favorite thing to do soon as Spring arrives is RUSH not walk to my flower beds and get my hands nice and dirty getting rid of any signs of the old nasty winter and start planting lots of beautiful bedding flowers. Also fill up my hummingbird feeders as well. I also decorate with little yard signs etc. in the bed areas as well. Oh this is one of my FAVORITE times of the season!
    hugs...

  12. The first thing I like to do in the spring is breathe that wonderful fresh air. I open all the windows in the house. And I spend as much time as possible outside cleaning up the damage done by hungry deer and rabbits in the garden and orchard...and marveling at the signs of new life.

  13. Wow, Suzanne..this is just stunning. I love the spring feel and colors and all the pretty details that you've added to this page. I have to say that I am in awe of all the beautiful pages that all of you put together. What a cherished gift.

As far as Spring. The first thing that we do when Spring finally arrives. My husband and I go to a nearby park with our dog and we have a picnic up on the hill. It's a time to sit and enjoy some alone time. Spring is probably my favorite season becuase Winter just never seems to end. lol

  16. WOW Suzanne, what a lovely calendar page and so detailed. It is truly a work of art.

When spring comes, I will put up all the winter gear. The heavy coats, hats and gloves, boots, etc. all take up way too much room. It's nice when we don't need those anymore.

  28. My favorite Spring Time activity is to head to Julian, a little town about an hour away, known for apple picking. I just love going to the little town, it has lots of little antique shops, B&Bs, restaurants, etc. It is so cute. I love taking the boys up there apple picking, and then grabbing lunch at a cafe, then hitting the local candy shop. It is such a fun day, and the kids love it

Although my favorite smell is the very first mowing of the year...it smells delicious after a long winter!!! Hope spring will come soon i really am looking forward to it...

  31. Wow, Suzanne this calendar page is absolutely gorgeous. I love all the soft spring colors. The scene is put together beautifully.

This may sound strange but as soon as the weather gets nice I "rip" open the windows and let the fresh air in and on weekends when I am home I love hearing the birds chirp outside. I also keep making my rounds through the garden to see which flowers are coming up and I can't wait to see them bloom. Yesterday we had 67 degrees, what a heat wave and I opened all the windows in the morning even though it was only 37 degrees at the time but so much warmer than the usual 18 degrees. Who knows how long it will take until I can do it again.

  32. Hi Suzanne! Love your calender page. It is the perfect page for May!

It's adorable, Suzanne! I love the scene you created. Arent those little birds adorable? I can almost smell the flowers your little girls are holding. It's beautiful!

May is my birthday month, too! I don't know if you want the answer to the question in this post, but here it is -

In the desert, Spring comes very early. I so look forward to seeing the blooming trees. Our valley features hundreds of pink or white flowering plums so the blooms just scream, "It's Spring!" I watch for the Bridlewreath bushes we planted in our back yard to bloom. They are reminiscent of my childhood in Bucks County, PA. I always knew it was Spring when they bloomed.

Your April scene is a real breath of fresh air. Your coloring is lovely and crisp. I love Tilda with her pieced dress to match the border and little butterfly. Nice touch having the flower soft on her flowers. Love how you did that lovely spring sky and the little birdies are adorable.
Spring in Australia starts on the 1st of September. I love that it is time for new birth with all the little lambs being born and the sound of chirping birds. The daffodils are out in flower and everyone is putting there new flower beds in.
It's a time for spring cleaning for me. Putting the winter clothes away and bringing out the Summer ones. Going for long walks on the beach and having picnics.

  94. We live in the country and the first sign of spring coming makes me open the windows and go outside and sit with my dog, listening to the birds chirp and the planes fly over - we are close to a major airport. And marvel and the big white puffy clouds in the sky. Can't wait for it to come - too much snow and cold!!

  95. What a wonderful gift you all made for Diana. Fabulous! Ah, Spring. What do I like to do...... Generally, I take to my car with my camera, traveling to all my favorite spots to see Spring bloom forth again with its promise. I also head to Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA to see the beauty there. More locally, I toss open the windows to bring in the fresh air, and just enjoy the blooming of the world again.

  101. Your calendar is making me wish that spring would pop up tomorrow. It has been cold for South Texas the last few months. We haven't gotten the snow and ice, but for here is is COLD.
When spring is sprung I love to go out in my yard and clean it up to prepare it for the spring flowers I want to plant. This makes me a happy gardener.

Be safe on your trip. Enjoy Nashville. It is a great place to site see. Here's hoping you run into Tim McGraw.

  106. Beautiful job on your 8x8 of May. Thanks so much for sharing! I was really happy to see about the online class for copics. I live in Hawaii and we don't have very much available here. We teach each other. I have fallen in love with Magnolia stamps and TGF and with Copic Sketch Markers.

Spring is an awesome time of the year: one of the first things that happens to start the day is hearing the birds chirping. There is new baby birds chirping and announcing their presence. I don't use air conditioning,if at all possible, so use the local breezes to circulate air. So upon waking, I open my lani door and allow my kitties to enjoy my backyard so they are free. I have they inside late at night so they are protected but during the day I want them as free as possible. So, I guess that is what I do first.
I live in a very beautiful place.
