Pumpkin Patch Fun!!

Hiya & Happy Monday to ya! Did you have a fabulous weekend & participate in all the wonderful World Cardmaking Day challenges? I was so busy running 2 challenges, visiting w/ my mom & sister & working that I didn't get to take part in any, hee hee! Oh well, it's okay!

I had someone post a comment to one of my copic tutorials that I found pretty interesting & thought I would share--now I disagree strongly with this person's opinion, but I'm always open to other's point of views too! They complimented me on my copic skills and then said that stampers/crafters were not artists--they used other people's art to create upon, not really creative themselves. Of course I had to respond (hee hee) and let them know I disagreed. I feel that anything creative is an expression of art, whether it's graffiti, computer graphics, drawing, stamping, knitting, landscaping, dancing & cooking--it's the creative process from the heart that creates ART. I don't define ART as one thing or think that one art is better than another--I admire all creative people & I think that art soothes the soul. I mean what a dreary world this would be without creative spirits to spread color and magic around, don't you think!

As a stamper or crafter, have you run into people with this opinion? I think this is awfully high-minded & distorted view of art and shows an expression of one-up manship which I don't agree with at all! But that is just my opinion, and that's what makes this wonderful world we live in go 'round & 'round! Just curious how you felt about it??

NewsBitz:

-Mo's Digital Pencil Challenge Blog is up & running and you can check it out HERE! The first challenge will be up this week so make sure & stop by to check it out!

********************************

This fun fall card uses a fabulous image from Mo's Digital Pencil called "The Big One"--I just adore it! You can find tons of these fabulous images at Mo's right HERE! Reminds me so much of my son when he was a lil' one--ahh the memories of all of our pumpkin patch trips. We go every year & have a blast, sometimes it's sooo cold & other years we've been hot, but always a great time! I colored him up with Copics and then added some stardust stickles to the pumpkins for a little sparkle. The papers are various scraps I had and I distressed the edges of the papers a bit with my Tonic Paper Distresser here. The background was embossed with the pumpkin Cuttlebug folder and then I added some fun burlap scraps as well.

I love metal charms and my friend Nikki has TONS of them in her store HERE & she ships super fast too (love that)! I added some Smooch paint in Pumpkin to the charm--I love that you can use Smooch on just about everything (metal, plastic, paper & wood)--so cool! If you want to see more fun ways to use Smooch--I have a video I made on my sidebar that shows you how!!

Alrighty, I'm outta here for the day! Gotta get laundry done, post office & bank errands and possibly some homemade dinner, hee hee! See ya tomorrow!

Suzanne

  1. Hi Suzanne, love that card. And by the way, I have was an exhibiting watercolor artist in Laguna Beach CA and Fair Oaks CA for many years and one of the reasons I quit was the attitude of many about art. Art is an expression of line, form and/or color, it is also a healing art (literally) and in today's world of pain and stress, if someone takes the time to fashion by hand, explore and implement color and they want to be called an artist then who are we to disagree or judge? I would be heart broken to think that something I said would keep someone from throwing color or create a card, we never know who we will touch with our willingness to share. Thanks for your post. Hugs

  2. Hi Suzanne, I just love your card. The colors are just devine, and the botton so rich that I could just see those pumpkin patch trips that we take with our 2 kids. Love it. You are a TRUE ARTIST! I won't get on my pedistal, I think that gives you the way I see this womans comment...Oh man the things that are going through my head at the moment...lol..Have an awesome Monday, can't wait to see what is next. 4. Beautiful card!! I wish my art abilities were as awesome as yours! I need so many more copic, hehe. I'm with ya on the art thing...yes being able to draw is a true art form but look how many different looks we get from just the coloring. Look at all those card challenges-same challenge all different looks. It's all art!

  5. Love this little cutie! And the Smooch on the charm, I never would have thought of that! Love the earthy colors of this baby and the burlap is just perfect!

I totally agree with you on art coming from the heart. Each creative process is different for every person and no matter how we get there, the important thing to remember is to create. We each leave our mark on what we work with and some people see it as just coloring and someone else sees it as a masterpiece. No two things come out the same so to me, anything created is art.

    Big hugs to you,

    Susan

  6. Isn't he just a cutie pie. Love that image & yes it also takes me back and brings a huge grin to my face. Oh the days..... now I have a cheerleader (whom I have never met) tell me my son is so sweet. A great compliment from his new girlfriend but I also miss the little guy he was. What do you do, just love them I guess.

  7. Suzanne your card is just darling as always....and I have no idea why someone would say such nonsense you are an artist in my mind and like you said each of us create with our heart for many different reasons. I agree with you completely on there are so many different kinds of art... Have a great day and thanks for all you do for us !
Hopefully someday I will color as good as you :)

  8. Suzanne, I just had to say that I agree with you. Just because I use someone elses image doesn't mean that the card I made around it or the sentiment I came up with isn't art. Locally here we have "art prize" which is supposed to be the biggest payout for an art prize so far ($250,000) and in that competitions top 10 includes even baloon artists. It's not for art critics to judge it's regular people. I just love that!!!

  9. How cute is that little guy! Fab image and your coloring is stunning!

In my opinion to create is art and there are sooooo many ways of being creative, maybe this person just doesn't know how to be creative....

  10. an interesting comment. I can appreciate why they think that, but if it wasn't for cardmaking and stamping then I wouldn't be able to express any sort of personal creativty as I (sadly!) didn't inherit my Mum's talent for drawing and painting!!

Creativity comes in all shapes and sizes although I will never ever ever think than an unmade will qualify as art!! (a la Tracy Emin!)

  11. I totally agree with you. Making cards is an art - I cannot think of it any other way. It takes me time to design, layout, choose colors that coordinate, and many times I redo parts of my cards so that all the elements flow - how can that not be an art and the satisfaction, relaxation and excitement it creates in me - that is art through and through!!! I cannot understand how someone would think otherwise - they do not know what they are talking about!! That actually upsets me to hear that someone would not think of us cardmakers as "artists" - we are artists - they are many many types of artists and I feel I am definately a "card artist"

  12. Hmmm, art or not? To me it's most definitely art. You can take a group of cardmakers, give them all the same stamp and ask them to make a card. Boy, there'll be some different cards made, no two will be the same. Different colours, papers, embellies. Each card will have a little piece of the maker in them. I can't draw at all, but I can stamp and colour and hopefully produce a card that someone will be pleased to receive.
    Best wishes
    Elaine xx

  14. Beautiful card! I just LOVE your coloring. And for that...I think you are an artist. Just blog hop around...even with the same stamps...some people's cards (like yours) are truely works of art! I try with watercolors, but I can't compare to many...and I wouldn't even dare attemp copics if you were next to me..mine would look like a child's art!! LOL
    Thanks for sharing.

  16. cute cute! ah the art or not question. yes i have run into this and unfortunately it came from someone very close to me who held a lot of sway and pretty much runied any attempts at creativity for me for years. i finally got over it and consider myself an artist but that person still does not. however i work with form, color, placement, shading and highlights in the coloring of an image - all of which is an artistic/creative endeavor AND most inportantly is an expression of me from my soul :)

  17. Hi Suzanne,
Another wonderful image from Mo ~ and you have done a great job as always.I didn't know you could put smooch onto metal!
I wonder if the person who emailed you has thought her comment through and through? I hope she reads the commments on this post today to see that art can be any form of work. 'Art is in the eye of the beholder'. I know 'artists' like she referred to, who sometimes use stamps instead of their own drawings to work with - they still consider they are doing 'Art'. As far as I am concerned, to do something with your hands that your mind as put together - no matter what - is art AND relaxation that we all need so very badly..........
Thanks for sticking up for all of us 'stampers'.
    Big hugs, Candy

  18. Funny thing happened to me. Last year, I started selling my cards at an small store near my home. I remember being very surprised when the owner gave me an "Artist Agreement" knowing full well my images were stamped. We didn't have the conversation at that time, but since I've revisited it myself. I agree with you, there are a variety of ways in which one can be "an artist" - and it is definitely not restricted to the person that drew the image for the stamp. Artistic expression comes in a variety of formats too numerous to count.

You rock in so many ways! Thank you.

  19. My husband is a photographer and there are people who think photography isn't an art form too. Some people just don't get it!
Check out my hubbys work and tell me it isn't art. I think not!!!

  20. Your work is beautiful and I TOTALLY agree with you. So hard to believe someone would tell you that.

  21. I agree with you, even if we are coloring in a stamped image that someone else created we all have our own way of doing it, like you color better than most with your copics, some just color it in like they are coloring in a coloring book, but you do it more artistically, and we all create a card or something with it. We can all start with a sketch for instance and all come up with a different looking creation that is our creation ... art if you will.
