Real Life Grind and Blog Candy!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I am back from my too short vacay! We had a good time just hangin' out in Snowshoe, WV. I love to get away, but boy do I hate coming back to the "real life grind" as I like to call it. Ya know, laundry, grocery shopping and kids activities to run and do--there's no adjustment period when you get back from a trip, its just smack dab back into the middle of it all!! Oh, well at least its still summertime and I did manage to sneak a lil' time in the craft room, although my mojo was running slow today--it needs to get back up to speed-lol! Just a few more pics of our vacation above:

-my son Riley hangin' out in the hammock (that's some real downtime)
-Alexa & Riley w/ their cousin Jenna doing their version of "Charlies Angels"
-lookout tower at Droop Mountain State Park
-picture of my blog candy (see end of post)

Ok, my card today uses Julee's Mojo Monday Sketch #46 for this week. The only change I made was to move the sentiment off-center. I used another Magnolia stamp that I got from Diana Crick whom you can contact here at magnolia.us@shaw.ca to order Magnolia stamps from--I can't wait until her new online store is up & running. I really like this stamp because it reminds me of when I was little hanging out on the pier with my feet dangling in the Chesapeake Bay either fishin' or catching crabs--good times I tell ya! The dp is from Crate Paper (Sweet Branch Collection-Cherish) and I paired it with PTI's summer sunrise & lavender moon cs--I love the bright pop of the goldish yellow in this card (Enabler alert--Paper Trey Ink released all their new stamps for the month along with their new, yummy chocolate brown color cs, dp & ribbons--I've ordered mine, have you?). I used my new Martha Stewart ribbon slot punch (that I've been looking for forevah & they finally got in stock online) and laced my ribbon from Michaels thru and tied it off. Tilda is colored with Copics and her wings have diamond stickles on them. The background I colored with my twinkling H2O's for a real light shimmer. The sentiment is from Verve Stamp's "feeling groovy" set that I had won awhile back--it has song lyric sentiments on it & is so fun! Too finish it off I added MM brads in the corners and used my Ranger Inkssentials pen to make dots around the scalloped circle to match the ribbon. Not too hard of a card to put together I think--I'm working on more projects for this week so stay tuned!!
***Blog Candy*** I'm over 5,000 hits thanks to all of you who read and leave me so much nice feedback. So to celebrate I'm giving away blog candy that I know you'll love! It includes (picture of it all above):

-1 Sweet Ebony/Sugar Nellie stamp (flowers)
-2 spools of ribbon
-1 Cropper Hopper ribbon spool drawer
-1 6x6 pad of dp by Making Memories
-1 bottle of brads from Queen&Co.
-1 travel scrapbook (that you can alter)
-10 stamped Magnolia images

All you have to do is leave me a comment on this post by Friday at 11pm (EST) telling me "how long does it take you to finish a card/project on average?" No rhyme or reason, I'm just curious for curiosity's sake!! Please make sure your comments are not anonymous so in case you win I can contact you--I will randomly pick & announce the winner on Saturday afternoon. If you link my blog candy announcement to your blog you'll get an extra entry (just let me know if you do in your comment) Thanks for playing!!

  5. I love the pic of the kiddo's! lol! And the card is beautiful. As for how long it takes me, it really depends on the card. Anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour I suppose. I'm very visual though, and generally have the card all put together in my head before I even sit down, so that saves time too!

  6. I think it really depends...a card maybe 30 minutes a project (still working on one as we speak). I sometimes only get a weekend to do stuff and not really the whole weekend so I just try and fit in time where I can...

Also, I did post about your candy on my blog...

Congrats on the hits - YOU GO GIRL!

  7. Love Tilda - hadn't seen this pose and it's sooooo cute! I am single minded right now doing swaps for SU Convention. Then after, I'll have time to work with Tilda to my heart's content. It can take me as little as an hour or as much as 5-6 hours from the twinkle of an idea to completion. I'm very slow. Keep on keepin' on!

  8. I'd say 2 hours per card... give or take... I use a lot of stuff that needs to dry, so I'm not including drying time in the whole deal, ya know? Beautiful cards and wonderful pictures... true lazy days of summer!

  9. First I want to say, I LOVE your blog...I am not even sure now, how it was that I found you but I am glad that I did. (You know how one blog leads to another blog and so on and so on, lol! Love your creations.
I never really know how long a card is going to take...I would say an AVERAGE of two hours if it's more detailed and we are counting coloring and assembly. I don't sketch, I am a "fly by the seat of my pants" kind of gal so sometimes it takes longer!
Thanks for letting me stop by!

On avg it takes me about 20-30 minutes to finish a card if I have a plan in my head already. Otherwise - it can take over an hour if I'm starting from scratch.

It takes me 1-2 hours to finish a card but not in one sitting. I do it in pieces through the week if I have time in the evenings and it never comes so easily for me!

  18. Suzanne your card is really gorgeous.... Thanks also for a chance at the blog candy.....
Well, now for my time spent making a card! Most of the time it is a good 3 - 5 hours. I know that is horrible isn't it? I switched from Scrapbooking over to card making so it would be FASTER! ROFL. By the time I color with markers and then search for embellishments and assemble... time does lapse! oh well, it's all the love of the craft! LOL.

  19. Hi, I love your card. I can't wait to own Magnolia stamps. It takes about hour to make a card. The hardest part for me is picking out the paper and stamps.

  20. Wow! I love this card and your blog! I'm glad I found it. I saw your message on the Magnolia-licous yahooo group. It takes me a day to finsih a card. that is because I have 3 small kiddies at home with me so I just make do with little pockets of time. By the end of the day when they are in bed. i finish up! I mentioned you blog candy on my blog Here.

  21. Your cards are too cute! I love that Charlie's Angels pic, kids are something else. I am really quick when I make cards but when I scrap, in 12 x 12, it takes me hours to finish just one page. Even if I have sketch I am so slow. I think because I want everything to be super perfect. I zip through cards, everything after the coloring in maybe 20-30 minutes. Thanks for the blog candy op!

  22. Your card is very nice I love it, I am loving these stamps. It almost always takes me a couple of hours to make a card and that doesn't mean that it is a masterpiece either. Then other times I can fly through a card and it be great, but sadly that doesn't happen to often. It really helps if I am really in the mood to make a card. Thanks for the chance to win.

  28. What an adorable card!! I am a sucker for wings and glitter! I make more than one of the same card at a time (so that I'll actually give one away, knowing I have another to keep), so it may take me a bit longer. Once I have the concept, it usually takes 30 minutes to an hour to do two-four of the same card.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh how adorable I love those Magnolia but I can never get my hands on one :( For me it depends since I am a SAHM it can take a while since I start and stop allot but if I get time to myself from start to finish it would take me 40 mins. I'll say if not then it could take a couple of hrs but I will have done a more then one project!

  34. Just found your blog today (followed your link from your card you posted) and I will definitely be subscribing.

It takes me anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 hour to create a card. I need to work on lessening that so I can get more done in the short time that I get to stamp.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Your card is fantastic, very cute! I would say on average it takes me about a 1/2 hour to an hour to make a card. The longest time is spent coming up with an idea.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So cute, your cards. My card-making time varies. If it's a straight-forward stamp, color and embellish, it's 1-2 hours from start to finish. If I'm doing stamp layers, paper piercing or stickles, it's an extra hour or so. Thanks for the chance to win these goodies for future cards!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi there! I am lovin' the cards on your blog :) Congrats on the 5,000 hits!

My cards usually take about 2 hours, if not more. With 3 boys, there's always some sort of interruption! Even without interruptions, even if I have the idea in my head, I constantly change things- like I just KNOW I have a better background paper than the one I picked out, so I will search for it. Must be the A.D.D. (attention deficit disorder) LOL.. anyhow.. with everything going on in a card- the cuttlebug, nesties, coloring, matting, embellishing, etc I would say 2 hours is a safe roundabout time.

Keep up the awesome work! Looking forward to seeing your future creations :)

  38. It SO depends on what I'm doing with it. If it's something like cards with embossing paste it can take me several hours (but I do several at once), but if it's a simple card it can take me 1/2 hour. Sometimes the thinking part is the part that takes the longest.

    Denise

  39. Very cute card! I love the colors and layout. Normally when I make cards I do 4-6 of the same design. It normally takes a couple of hours to do all of them. I like to make multiples because I always need some to send out and that way I have plenty on hand!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wonderful, inspiring blog ! I'd say it takes me about 20 minutes on an elaborate card and much less for an easy one. I make a lot of cards for cardsforheroes.org so I've had a lot of experience.

  50. Love the Card!!! How long to create a card? One to two hours, depending on how if I planned it out, and if I'm organized...which of course, I never am....But it's so darn fun!!!! Time passes quickly when I'm having fun! Have a great day!

  51. Wow! I do teabag folding for my cards...An average teabag...from cutting to folding and glueing takes about 20 minutes. Then it just depends on what kind of card I am making. So I would say on average an hour to an hour and a half. I don't have a blog yet for my card making. :o( I am going to have to work on that!

    ReplyDelete
  52. These Magnolia stamps are so cute. I love your card, too. This is my first visit to your blog, but I subscribed, so it won't be my last. I'm already enjoying it. It takes me around 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours if I'm designing the card. If I'm doing one I've done before, maybe 30 to 45 minutes. Thanks for sharing.

    ReplyDelete
  53. This card is adorable! I just want to touch and feel it! Wow!

As for card making or crafting, it's the idea that takes me days to put together. Once I've done that then life is good and things move along pretty quickly. I was ideas came to me quicker but I tend to be a little ADD and am easily distracted. Bugs the heck out of me!

  54. How stinkin cute is she? I love this Mag and she's on my want list. She reminds me of running around in WV when I was growing up and sitting on the wall fishing. I love the papers and how the ribbon is ran through. Oh, she's just delightful! Thanks for the opportunity for some calorie free candy! It usually takes me around 30-45 minutes to get a card finished when I'm just hem hawing about it. When my mojo's going - about 15 minutes. I'm like a crazy person! And those have been my favorite designs! Congratulations on the great hits! You rock!

  55. I just found your blog and I'm glad I did because you have some cute cards posted!

It usually takes me at least a couple hours per card unless I'm doing a really plain one.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The hardest part is picking the stamps anf the colors. Once I have that picked out, the rest is a peice of cake and can be done in an 1hr.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I never finish a card in one take. When I have an idea, I have to let it rest a while before I continue. This way, one card takes me a 3-4 hours.
I liked this question, it's nice to know how long others work per card. Greetings from Belgium, Annelies

    ReplyDelete
  58. Your card is too cute. I'm new to these stamps...gotta get my hands on some soon!! Congrats on your 5000! Let's see...how long to make a card...if I get really motivated and lucky, about 20 mins. Others, a couple of hours or days! Sometimes you get that one card that just stumps you...you put it aside in hopes of copmleting another time...yeah, whatever right!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I would say that most cards take me 1-2hrs to make. Is that crazy or what, not like we are makin millions on these either! YOur card is awesome. HEidi

    ReplyDelete
  60. It can take me anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 days! My average, I suppose is 45 minutes: from choosing papers, choosing a design, deciding on embellies, then creating start to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It varies cause, I really never know what I am gonna do or design.......plus finding the supplies, time, etc.........LOL.....about an hour!
I so luv your blog & CONGRATS!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well, I see that you are a Magnolia fan, too. LOVE those stamps!! I would say it takes a minimum of 1 hour for a card, but it could take as long as 2-3 hours if I have to hunt down a certain item (or two). Since it takes that long per card, I like to make multiples of cards if I really like the card. Sometimes I just change the layout and use the same colors, sometimes I use the same layout and change the colors - I like to have lots of choices!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Love your creations, Suzanne. Oh boy, as to how long it takes me to finish a card I'm embarrassed to say especially after reading some of the other comments. Let me just say more than 3 hours usually because I'm having a difficult time making decisions about some element of the card. If I were to repeat a card probably 30 minutes to and hour depending on how much detail is on the card.

    ReplyDelete
  64. the stamp looks just like my little granddaughter!! I love your blog and cards. It must take me 1 1/2 hours on average. lots longer on some with lots of embellishments!! If I could juts get my space organized better....

  65. Beautiful card. I must say I have been wanting to try stickles but have not been able to buy any, it would be great to win so I can try it out!

As for how long it takes, if I plan it out before I start only 1/2 hour but if I don't sketch it first then probably around an hour. It also depends on the size of the card :) An altered clipboard can take days, so all the paint, glue, sealer has time to dry.

  71. What a beautiful card!! :) I LOVE making cards but, I'm really new to the whole card making world so it may take me between 30 mins to an hour on up to 3-4 hours depending on how detailed the card is. 75. If it is a simple card, I'm looking at 10, 15 minutes. If it is for a swap, or something out of my comfort zone, then we are looking at hours. Sometimes I will get totally stuck and lose my mojo, and it can take me 3 days to finish a card.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well...sometimes it only takes about 15 minutes to make a card. But, if I want it to be special and detailed, it can take several hours.
I've enjoyed your blog and your cards - they are great inspiration.

  77. Fantastic card and beautiful children too! I love your blog and the inspiration you inspire...thank you

It takes me about an hour from my first sketch until the end. Simple cards would be less than 15 minutes but one using various mediums may take 3 hours or a bit more.

  78. Never liked fishing, but your card brings me back to a simpler time.
It probably takes me about an hour actually doing (Since I have the stuff out I usually make 2-4 of the same cards at a time.) I spend more time just to come up with the idea. Sometimes an idea will pop in my head, like the SC184 (splitcoast sketch challenge) and it looks way better in my head than in real life. Sometimes I have the idea but it takes an hour just to get the paper combo right.

  79. Suzanne your card is adorable. Really nice. How long does it usually take you to make a card? For me it can vary. I may get one done in under a couple hours. Sometimes less than an hour, when it all falls into place. That is usually after I've carried the idea around in my head and work it all out before hand. So when I sit down to work it literally just comes together. I have had a couple cards, that have just not gone the way I wanted. I sometimes leave them a day or two and come back to them to finish. I will keep looking at them on the desk while I work on other things, until I figure it all out. Then I go back and finish them up.

  80. Love your cards, they are beautiful. I am trying to take this weekend to make some cards, but it is so lovely out the deck is calling me. It usually takes me about 15- 20 minutes to complete a card unless it is one that has a lot of detail and then it can take about an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Love your card and the blog candy. The most time consuming thing for me is pick out my papers and stamp ..I usually use a sketch from a sketch blog but if I do my own sketch then its that much longer so I would say at least 2 to 4 hours

    ReplyDelete
  82. Tough question. It can take me hours and hours to complete a card, only because I can't decide on the layout, colors, embellishments, etc., and will arrange and rearrange, walk away and come back, and do it again. I did, once, make the same card twice... my sea turtle card. The first one took a couple of hours because I never have a real plan before I start, but the duplicate took about 30 minutes. I need to start using layouts and have a plan going in. As it is, I just choose an image, color it the way I like, usually a couple of times so I can cut out the image and stack.

Awesome, awesome candy, as are your cards!

  83. Congrats on over 5,000 hits, but it doesn't surprise me because you make such beautiful cards!! It can take anywhere from 1/2 hour to 3 hours for me to make a card, depending on how focused I am. I know...I'm slow, but details are important to me. :-)

  84. You have a gift with making cards they are beautiful.

If I know what I'm going to do making a card takes me about an hour but if I just pick up a stamp I have to think on it so it takes about 2-3 hours.

  86. continuation . . . slight interruption and didn't quite finish - it generally takes me about an hour to do a card "from scratch" -- most times I grab and go - pulling stuff here and there on a whim. I don't look at my supplies first - always the stamp set and work my way around it. Sometimes they're good . . . sometimes not so good. Maybe I need to change my method! LOL!

  88. First of all congrats on so many hits, but it is no surprise, your cards are absolutely georgeous!!!! Lets see most cards take me a couple of hours, just because I have to think about it for the 1st hour! LOL, then once I start working on it I change my mind at least two times! It also takes me a little bit longer, as i am new to the stamper world only at it for a year, but I am hooked and find new joy everyday, trying out new stuff I read about everyone using or trying on Magnalicious!

  89. Love this card, the girl is SO cute and you're coloring is great!

    You are very talented.

How long do I take to do a project? Mostly scrapbook pages now and I can take anywhere from 1/2 hour to all day! That's really narrowing it down.
