Fall Elegance & Blog Candy TOO!!

Happy Wednesday everyone! How ya doin'? Are you a busy, busy bee like me, hee hee?! Lots to get done this week & not enough time to do it all! I'm still frantically trying to hunt down a couple more things that the kids need for school supplies--I hate that the middle school doesn't give out their lists early when all the stores are well stocked, makes it so much harder for everyone! I've got a very long post for ya today so I'll keep my "monologue" shorter for ya, lol! There's alot on this post including my kid's first day of school pics, 300,000 Hits Blog Candy & my project of the day--so make sure & scroll all the way down to see it all!

This is Alexa yesterday all ready for the first day of 8th grade! She's always hated to wear dresses & skirts but I guess she's starting to change her mind cuz' she insisted she needed this jean skirt, hee hee! Can't believe she'll be 14 soon--where does time fly off to?
Here's my "little man" (don't let him know I told you my nickname for him or else he'll kill me, hee hee)! Gettin' to be a big man I think (boo hoo) and in 6th grade now! This is his half grin cuz' he hates me taking his picture but I do it anyway cuz' that's what mom's do, hee hee! He was pretty nervous & didn't want to eat much breakfast and came home & said that middle school was "ok" but he had issues with his locker! Crossing my fingers that tomorrow goes smoother for him!

Today's project is one I made as a thank-you gift for a neighbor/friends of ours that had us over for a lobster feast dinner this past weekend--YUM! I love all seafood & crabs & lobster are my top favorites and they were so sweet to ask us over! So to thank them I made them some homemade muffins (raspberry & chocolate chip--yes I made extras for us too, hee hee), a card and a bread basket towel that I stamped & colored!

I haven't done stamping/coloring w/ Copics on fabric in awhile, but I do love it--it's so much fun! I have a tutorial on my sidebar on how to do this if you're interested--I stamp on my fabric with memento ink when I'm coloring the image w/ Copics! Copics are permanent & fabric friendly--I always heat set it with an iron when I'm done so that it is washable! The main image is my all-time favorite Lockhart stamp "Harvest Candle"--I use this stamp alot in the fall season! The swirls and leaves are from the Paper Trey Ink set "Fall Elegance" and I stamped them in Palette Inks which are washable inks as well. I thought this would be lovely in a bread basket for the fall season--I'm going to make a couple more (one for myself & some to sell if you're interested). The swirls & leaves go around the entire towel (which is a flour sak towel) and on the opposite corner is the same fabulous Lockhart image colored again.

I of course had to make a matching card with the same Lockhart "Harvest Candle" stamp! It's colored w/ the same Copics and then I added diamond glaze to the hurricane candle & grapes and stickles on the leaves. The elegant shape is from my Nestabilities Labels 4 and I shaded the edges with my favorite Inkssentials Blending Tool (oh how I love it)! The cs, dp and ribbon are from PTI--the bow was tied w/ my Bow Easy and then I added some Bella Baubles to the bottom. The leaf charm is actually a brad and I cut off the back shanks & then punched thru the metal with my hole punch so I could make it a charm!! A perfect fall gift set! Whaddya think?

Whew, that was a long post and I'm tuckered out from just typing it, LOL! Hope you have a fabulous day!

hugz,
Suzanne

  4. Congratulations! That's an amazing number of hits for this timeframe. But okay, it's no wonder, I am one of many people who has already spend hours on you great blog LOL.

My most favourite book... oh my, I've read so many of them, but I think the one book that has well and truly caught me was "The Neverending Story" by Michael Ende. I just loved it, I couldn't put the book away and just had to read on and on. I basically grew up with this story, first with the film(s) and later the book and I think it's a story every child should know.

There have been other that have probably been just as good, but this one came to my mind first.

  12. Congratulations! That is awesome :) Your kids are cute, and that gift basket is awesome!

I am an avid reader, but if I had to pick, I would say that To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite. The coming of age story, the interweaving of plot lines, the symbolism... and the humor mixed with painful truths... I love it! I have read it at least a dozen times, and I still marvel at it.

What a great giveaway! I will definately mention it on my blog :)

  14. Wow, 300K hits, you hit the big time girlfriend!! Congrats!

My favorite book is The House of Sand and Fog. I read it before the movie (always recommended). It made me mad, sad, happy, laugh. I loved every character and found myself routing for each of them to win the house. The book has stayed with me after all of these years- that is great writing (all of my emotions were used!). Of course my next favorite is Time Travelers Wife. I kept forgetting that it was fiction! What a great love story it was- Henry and Claire were just meant for each other!

My favorite book? Hmm...I love to read especially mysteries. My favorite author is Nora Roberts, so I'd have to say her JD Robb series--sort of futuristic mysteries. It's light reading but her books have suspense, romance and humour. She especially makes me laugh--I need that, LOL.
Those muffins really look yummy and I love the fall colours of your card.

I see your son is about he same age as mine so when I tell you about my books you will understand.
My favorite book is the "Whimpy Kid series" all 3 of them. My son loves these books and has read them over and over and he is always talking about Greg. So, I decided to read them and they were really cute and funny. After reading them I could dicuss them with my son which made a big difference when he talked about them. We get a kick by talking about them together and just make comments to each about the books. At this point in the 5th grade I think I would do anything to help him in his reading. I guess I will be reading more of his books now since by reading the whimpy kids has helped him a lot. Now he is into magic and I have been reading about Harry Houdini but by next week he will have changed to something else...LOL.
    Have a great day.

My favorite book? Has to be Sidney Sheldon's "Master of the Game". That book was so intriguing. I could not put it down. But the thing that got me was the ending. Not anything I expected. Great mystery. Love his books!

My favorite book is "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving. This is a book that really stays with you. For several weeks after I finished the book, I really missed the characters. They had become real to me. It's a great book. The movie "Simon Birch" is based on this novel.

Ok, my fav all time book is "The Gentle Ways of the Beautiful Woman" by Anne Ortlund it contains 3 books in one and I have read it 'more than once'!!! It speaks to my heart as a woman and how I can bring beauty to the world around me, starting in my heart and home and children. It's so much a 'how to' book as it is an attitude adjustment...which I often need and probably why I've read it again and again!

Your thank you gift here is gorgeous...I really like the way you brought that image to life on the card and matching towel....you are such an inspiration!
Off to tweet about your candy, have a beautiful day!

  37. Suzanne - love your blog and cannot wait to take your Copic class in September.

Twilight Phantasies – Maggie Shayne. I bought this book to read while my husband was on deployment. It was so interesting that I decided to buy the whole Wings of the Night series and figured I would have enough to read while he was away for 7 months. Needless to say there were 11 books and I had them all read within a couple of months. They caught my interest so bad that I actually called into work sick one day just to continue reading. You gotta love Maggie Shayne and whatever keeps you reading has to be a good author. I am so upset there is not another book until 2011 in regard to this series.

Young adult I love the Harry potter series, magic drama and little romance even I'm reading them to my five year old son. An adult book would be Book of Negros because of the strong charaters. But my go to are always romance because of ease of the read.

My favourite book must be Twilight series as I like the idea of the vampires and the love story which goes with it. My other book which I read I think the quickest as I read quite deep into it is called Last Man Down - A Firemans Story which was a true story about events which happened during 9/11. It was unbelievable what everyone was going through waiting to be rescued etc and made me cry! I will keep this book always.

Anywho... My favourite book is by Stephen King - Salem's Lot. I think it was the first Stephen King book that I read. I was surprised and excited at how intense that I felt while reading it. I had never been frightened by a book before. At the time, I didn't think a book could possibly scare more than a movie. As it turned out, it scared me more. It was all in my head... And I couldn't shut my eyes to get away from it. It was FANTASTIC. I still smile when I think about that feeling.
Have a great week - hope you get all your chores accomplished.

My favorite book is Angela's Ashes, I started reading thinking it was a bio because I love those books and it was so much more. I laughed at some but cried at a lot more. The movie was no where near as good. It made me appreciate the life I had here. Thanks for asking.

  88. I fondly remember my first gothic romance novel that I ever read – “Wicked Loving Lies” by Rosemary Rogers. I had never even heard of this type of book before (we are talking 30 years ago). I was enthralled with this book, and wishing that I could meet a guy just like the man in this novel. I even missed a bus because I was so involved with the story. She wove this tale of romance, intrigue and suspense so artfully that I felt as though I was living it. I have since moved on to murder and mayhem, court room dramas, etc., but this one book will forever stay with me! Beautiful children by the way!

  92. Congratulations on reaching 300,000 hits - that's a great accomplishment! One of my favorite books is "The Revolt of Sarah Perkins" by Marian Cockrell. It has been out of print for some time. A spinster lady living with her brother, just turned 30, takes a teaching job our west - which she has to travel by train and stagecoach to reach. It is humorous and witty, and the heroine is one spunky gal!

  120. Hello Suzanne,
My favorit book is from Don Piper and it is called 90 minutes in Heaven (90 minuten in de hemel in Dutch). Two years ago our son Wilfred died because of an accident by the farm and when such a thing happens to you, you think a lot.... I wanted to be sure if he (our son) is "oke" now. Because of this book I believe that our son is also in Heaven now! My story is sad, but we have still 6 children left to take care of and we want for them a happy life on earth and how can you accieve that? By beiing yourself a person that enjoys to live, therefore I spend my time in making cards to sell them and give (a great part of) the income to our church and to an "home for elder people" (I do not know the word for it in Englisch). I hope I have some luck!

  126. Wow....your blog candy would be heavenly!! Okay...so I don't really have a favorite book, but I do have one that is very memorable!! I read Robin Cook's "Marker" in 2006 right before I had my son. Basically, a woman finds out she has a genetic pre-disposition to cancer and ends up in the hospital for an unrelated problem. To avoid rising insurance costs, an insurance company is slipping drugs into IV's of patients with genetic markers causing a lethal heart attack. So I go in to be induced with my son and when the nurse goes to put the IV in I made sure to tell the nurse about the book and made sure that wouldn't happen to me. I was being so silly and paranoid!! It just really stuck with me as I was at the nurse's mercy! jtackett78@hotmail.com

I will be honest, I am not a huge book reader. But my favorite book that I read was Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger. It was a LONG time ago...way before 9/11...and way before the movie...the book was way better than the movie.

Now, I am stalling to figure out what is my favorite book...yes, shame on me, I don't read to often. So, I'm going to have to see the Teeny, Tiny Woman. It's been the first book all three of my children read first. I loved it so much, I taught them to read with this book. There was a woman....oh, I don't need to tell you it. Again, thanks. 144. First off Suzanne, congratulations on your milestone with your blog. What an accomplishment!!! For my favorite book, wow that's hard. I've read some great spiritual books before and after my son's death that were truly inspirational and moving, and I'll never forget The Notebook. However, I think one of my all time favorites for real page turning literature was Ken Follett'sThe Pillars of the Earth. It was so beautifully written about a subject matter that I thought I'd never be really interested in, and yet I could not put that book down!!! It was remarkable and transported me back in time; I'll never forget it.

  145. Wow, what awesome candy. I just got some of my firstt Sugar Nellie stamped images and you have stamp in there. I fell in love with the stamped images I got. Anyway, af far as favorite book...Perfect Stranger. It is not the common type of books that it seems that someone will pick up. I had never even heard of the author Cleida Hedrick until my neighbor came over and was telling me about his sister-in-law asked him to paint a painting for the cover of her book. At that time he did not have children and asked if my son would be his model for the book. Anyway, long story but he finished the painting showed it to his SIL who said to him-you did not read the book to know what the character looked like did you? Nope, he did not, was all good and well but he had to put curly hair on the picture. So although it is a good story they used the likeness of my son and my had holding his hand on the front cover! So I am pretty partial to the book!

Congrats on all the hits and great candy! This is my only ways of getting new stuff right now with the economic problems here!

For myself To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite and when my daughter was little, she loved for me to read her Feliciana Feydra LeRoux because I would do all the characters with Cajun accents. 169. Now that questions had me stumped, because I love to read anything. But I remember the book I got for my daughter when she was little called "I love you forever" and it brought tears to my eyes the first time I read it. It puts the sentiments of motherhood perfectly into a short little children's book and all the things the little boy did, I could remember my son's doing when they were little. (Throwing things in the toilet, having loud friends over, etc) and you actually miss that when they are grown. At the end of the little book the son comes back and takes care of his elderly mom.
    I know... I am a sap.

As for books, that is a really hard question, since I have read about a book a week, for the last 20 years. So instead of racking my brain thinking of the best of them all, I will pick the best for 2009. It was The Host by Stephenie Meyer (not related to the Twilight series). I highly recommend it.

  183. Hi Suzanne,

Congrats on your 300K hits- - you are one deserving person! Your blog candy is fab. Your projects for today are beautiful, as always, you have one lucky neighbour!

It sounds like your son had a 1st day of new school like my daughter, My eldest was fine going back to school to Year 9(I believe it's Grade 8 in USA) but my little one was a bundle on nerves at the thought of moving up to the big school and starting year 7 (Grade 6) she couldn't sleep the night before and when she got to school she too had locker issues and had to share her sisters locker for the day - not good at all.

My fav book of all time has to be Tolkiens Lord of the Rings - I'm a huge fantasy book reader. When it comes to more recent books I tend to read the same as the girls as they too like fantasy, magic & Myth. I loved all the Harry Potter ones, my eldest has me reading the Twilight series and because of her love of vampires I bought the House of Night series by PC & Kristin Cast - wow I read the first book in the series in 5 hours (approx 400 pages) they are great but at the same time different from twilight.

I look forward to seeing what you have for us over the next 300K

I love your blog and like that you include bits about your family. Now we are talking 42 years ago. But, ever since I learned to read I have been a constant reader. I love to read.

Have a good one, loved the pictures of your kids going to school. Mine are now 20 and 24 so I dont deal with school anymore.

  189. Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I think my favorite book is "Gone Withe the Wind". I must have read it 2 or 3 times when I was a kid. I kept checking it out of the library and returning it and checking it out again. Such a romantic story. I loved the movie too, but it left out a lot of things, like a couple of Miss Scarlett's children. I think it is a timeless story and is still relevant today. Everyone should read this classic.

My favourite book af all time? Thats a hard one, I LOVE reading, so there are many! If I had to choose only one it would be 'A moment in the Wind' by Andre P. Brink. I read it the first time as a student and have read it many times since, I think it is because Andre Brink is just such a master. The story takes place in the desert and at one stage he describes it so well that you have no option but to stop reading and find something to drink.

What a hard thing you gave us to do – my favorite book probably is the one I’m reading at the moment or what phase I’m at in life. I love books!! I scanned down the list of what others enjoy and have said “yes – yes – yes that is my favorite” only to change my mind when I read the next listing. Anything by any of these authors will catch my attention: Peter Abrahams, Sandra Brown, Stephen Coonts, Patricia Cornwell, Diane Mott Davidson, Leslie Glass, John Grisham, Tony Hillerman, Lisa Jackson, Dean Koontz, Phillip Margolin, Richard North Patterson, Frank Peretti, Nora Roberts, Lawrence Sanders, John Saul, Lisa Scottoline, etc etc etc…..but of course this just scratches the surface. It's a wonder there's time for stamping -giggle
