Back 2 School Fun!
Today the Magnolia-licious DT has a fun Back-2-School themed Blog Hop for you all today! You can see all the challenge details at the Magnolia-licious Highlites Blog so you can play along with us…make sure to hop along to see all the DT projects too! I used to love back to school…new crayons, new pencils and notebooks..it was fun and I always enjoyed school. Now as a mom I enjoy the kids GOING BACK to school but not so much on buying school supplies…wowza they got super expensive…$210 for both kids school supplies! Both of my kids are in high school and Alexa has multiple AP classes…they all need special (re: expensive) binders, books and so on blahblahblah LOL! But it was always fun to see the kids dressed for the first day of school, new bookbags at the ready at the bus stop..I always made them a special treat for their lunchboxes for that day. Now they barely eat breakfast and get up 20 mins before the bus comes and run out the door LMBO –oh how times change huh? So I BASED my project today on a gift for a smaller child to get on their first day of school….a mini lunchbox filled with crayons, notepad and fun lipgloss then a candy pencil I made…fun things for them to open.
I'm also entering this into the following challenges:
I picked up a bunch of these cute, mini lunchboxes a few years ago…I always stock up at the Target $1 bin cuz as a crafter YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN you might need it right? hahahaha I colored up this cute NEW “Autumn Tilda with Pencils” to decorate the front of my lunchbox…the papers are from a new pack from MME 6x6 pack “Quilting Bee” (loved the scissor pattern). The lil paper with A+ on it was made using some of my PTI sets…I also used the alphabet border to decorate the faux-bellyband. Some fun mix of ribbons finish it off and make it girly! Check out the rest of the stamps in the Turning Leaves Collection HERE! Also pre-orders are up for Little Christmas Collection too (so so cute)!
This cutie “Autumn Tilda with Pencils” got colored with BOTH Copics and TouchTwin markers…I added a bit of Stickles to her hairbands and her shoes for sparkle.
I saw these candy pencils on Pinterest (oh lawdy the time spent and lost on that site hahahaha—I luv it)…you can see the original tutorial HERE. I decided to use Fruit Mentos cuz’ my kids always loved them instead of Rolos (they don’t like caramel..cuz they are crazy lol). I cut a dk yellow cs to size and then scored it on my Scor-Pal every 1/2 inch for the creases…pink cs makes the eraser and then a slim pc of Reynolds Wrap (foil) for the band on the eraser. The pencil tip is a Hershey’s Kiss that I airbrushed the wrapper with a Copic Brown marker (E37) so that it was a bit darker. Then I made a double tag with “Mini Autumn Tilda with Pencils” stamped in red (I just colored the pencils for a fun, different effect)…the other tag was made using the same PTI set and then tied off with Bakers Twine. What kid wouldn’t have fun opening this set…heck I’d like one for meself hahahaha!
Ok 2 things today, first is Blog Candy (cuz I haven’t done it in a long long time)….if you leave a comment telling me “What Your Fave Back 2 School supply was to buy or get when you were young?” on this post by Friday you will win a pack of NEW MME 6x6 paper and 2 Magnolia stamps of your choice! (Mine was paper and new box of crayons...go figure lol)
Secondly make sure to hop on to

Well done Hugs Elaine
Adorable lunch pail...love it!
ReplyDeleteI was a sucker for new pens and spiral notebooks. :)
Oh WOW, your little lunch box is wonderful!!!! And as always your colouring is fantabulous! My fave school supply was funky binders and fountain pen(with weird ink colours). Hugs, Brigitte
ReplyDeleteLoved your lunch box! That was my favorite thing to pick out going back to school, my new lunch box with matching thermos. It would take me forever to decide haha!
ReplyDeleteOh how sweet is your mini lunchbox!! I love all the primary colors you've used! Perfect for that little student! Neato candy pencil, too!!
ReplyDeleteLove your back-to-school projects--they are adorable! You will eventually have grandchildren that you can give things like this to! But, no rush, right? :^)
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed buying the loose-leaf binders. I thought it was fun to organize it. I was a weird child. And now I'm a weird old lady. Some things never change. ;^)
Hugs,
Penny
Super cute Suzanne! I love pinterest too and this is an adorable idea! Wonderful lunchbox too!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Dena
Wow Suzanne, love this set, the box and 'pencil' are so cute and perfect for younger kids - love your creativity!
ReplyDeleteHugs Nicola xxx
Your project is so cute Suzanne. So bright and cheery. My favorite part about going back to school was probably the new markers. And I big box of crayons. Something so nice about having those new to start off a year.
ReplyDeleteLove this project, Suzanne...it's so adorable. Your son is HUGE...holy moly...he is bigger than the football players! Wow...you did make a giant! My Son is heading that way too, he is as tall as my hubs and I and is only 12. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI liked buying folders when I was younger and smelly pencils!
Tracy V
What a super cute school project. I saw the pencils on pinterest, too, going to have to try it. The coordinating tag with the mini Tilda is adorable, fun little school gift.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite school supply was and still is a box of crayons, love the smell and sharp points in a new box. Really love the box 64 with the sharpener on the back, lol!
This is soooooo cute Suzanne. Your coloring is gorgeous as always. My eye was draw to the pencil....I knew that was a chocolate kiss (I love my chocolate).
ReplyDeleteHugs....Pam:)
This little lunchbx cutie is precious. Brings back lots of back to school memories. I too, always LOVED going back to school. Of course as I got older - I enjoyed shopping for clothes. But my very fave back to school item was always paper (and it still is LOL!). Paper started out so pretty and clean - but I loved to draw and doodle, or write down brilliant ideas, or fold and re-fold to make things. I always got into trouble for "wasting" so much paper. Now it's my money buying the paper and I can waste as much as I want :)
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love all your projects! My fav school item was definitely the clothes....all about the clothes!
ReplyDeleteI loved a new pack of colored pencils. Now it is a new pack of Copic markers. Things don't change much but the prices sure do! Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteLove your project! I used to love picking out folders with different pictures on them.
ReplyDeleteAww, Suz, this little box is just too cute! I never remember to go to Target for treasures! The candy pencil is adorable! What a clever addition!
ReplyDeleteHmmm - back to school memory - Not being able to sleep! Then, because of that, as a teacher, I always called each and every new student the night before school started and chatted with each one so that they would feel at ease. I hope it helped allay their anxiety.
XO,
Chris
LOL.. it was the outing to buy all the school supplies. I always got a new lunch box. Holly Hobbie was my favorite! (wish I still had those old metal lunch boxes but I wore them out!) Mom would always complain at the cost of the supplies but would always save a bit of $$ to treat us to an ice cream cone at Thrifty's.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne....just love your creations! Each and every one is beautiful. My favorite thing to get for starting a new school year was 3-ring binders with index separations. I always had to have every thing neat so I needed the option of being able to rewrite the page and put it in its proper place. Spiral notebooks prohibited me from doing this.
ReplyDeleteLove the mini lunchbox! Love the $1 spot at Target too! Do some of my best shopping there...lol. I always looked forward to that fresh box of crayons. Who can resist the smell of Crayola wax? I also looked forward to buying my supply of PeeChee folders (dating myself for sure). Great project, Suzanne!
ReplyDeleteWhat card maker didn't love getting new crayons (smile) when they were young? Crayons and scissors -- oh yes, and new bottles of paste (which always dried up and cracked - even on the paper on which it was used). It's been a long time since I was in school, but I loved it so much I became a teacher (HA).
ReplyDeleteGreat projects. The primary colours go so well with the back to school theme.
ReplyDelete** Kate **
I loved getting my new trapper keeper...like...THIS IS MY YEAR to be organized. Didnt' do it then, and I'm not doing it now...but I still try!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne. I use to love all the pencils, so that I needed to go home and sharpen them all. But I did love the years when my girls soooo looked forward to school shopping every year. Love your stuff as always!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous lunchbox! Love your coloring!
ReplyDeleteMy fav back 2 school items when I was a kid were new markers and notebooks. I loved putting my name on all my new school supplies!
Candy
Holey canoli! That is perfect Suzanne! You've gone and inspired me...yet again! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this gift set! It is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh I loved school supplies when I was young. I would spend my allowance on them. lol Let's see my favorite was probably notebooks. I still love notebooks.
Thank you so much for the chance at this yummy candy!
I love that image... its perfect for the Back2Schoool Theme... i used them, too.
ReplyDeleteYour work looks fantastic, love it =)

Hi Suzanne,
ReplyDeleteI love the mini lunchbox and pencil. So cute!!!
I loved the start of a new school year. My favorite were notebooks and folders. I usually had solid color notebooks but could get some cool (think late 60's-early 70's cool) folders. When I was older and in college (just last year even) I still loved my notebooks and folders. Now I look for coordinated sets, usually with a butterfly somewhere on it.
Gorgeous lunchbox! Love your coloring!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Pencil creations are ADORABLE!!
Fav part of starting school was
Tablets and ink pens
Decorated my notebook tablets way back then with ribbons and doo-dads!
Ink pens, Oh MY!! Needed all colors and had to try them out first, because if I don't like the way they write!!
Funny think is, I still collect ink pens today!!
some buy shoes as a pick me up, I buy ink pens!(and copics!)lol
Funny how some things never change!!
Thanks for offering the yummy blog candy!
Hugs
Lorianna
Wow this is so fab what a fun idea I love this hugs Rebekah xx
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEE this card. Adorable and so love those pencils!! xxxAnn Marie
ReplyDeleteBecause I love you and your Blog, I'm leaving a comment....I loved getting the largest box of Crayola crayons.. and a pack of paper...I can still smell that 'new' paper. I continue to get my 4 grandchildren (ages 16-8) the same large box of crayons and they LOVE it! Love your art work, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Magnolia stamps are so cute. What a great giveaway. Of course my favorite things for school were crayons, markers and colored pencils.
ReplyDeletek macko 1 at juno dot com
What a wonderful card and 'pencil'. My favorite item was and still is spiral notebooks - I buy them today for all kinds of things - how can you pass them up with they're on sale for like 0.49....this must be what caused my paper addiction for cardmaking.
ReplyDeleteI love your lunch box! A super creative idea. Great coloring and details.
ReplyDeleteKaren
What a great altered tin! Sure to make back to school fun! My fave was a new pencil case to hold my new pencil crayons! I LOVED to color!
ReplyDeleteWOW you did an amazing job with that Magnolia stamp. Very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI always (and still do) love getting new rulers, lol. All different colours and kinds, metal, wood, flexible rubber etc.
TFS your awesome gifts. Love them!!
You are so funny! LOVE all the sports talk...love my baseball but so excited for football to start!
ReplyDeleteSchool supplies when I was young...has to be the new crayons. As I got older it was the new pens. I STILL hit Staples at back to school time for pens every year and I'm almost 58 and I need new pens like I need more paper!
Thanks so much for the chance to win! Might see you in CT...I'm so out of practice I might have to start with course 1 again!
Sue B

ReplyDeleteLovin' your lunch pain and pencil treat! Very clever little treat there! Perfect for back to school.
ReplyDeleteI just love your Coloring!!!!
ReplyDeleteTilda is just beautiful... and the whole lunch box gifty is super cute!!!!
I was (ha.. and still am) a sucker for any school/office supplies. If I had to choose, it would be Flair felt tip pens, Crayons, and a binder full of paper (had to have those puffy stickers to put on the binders also).
Trish
Those are so sweet - great ideas too!

Cute project, Suzanne. My favorite supply was the new box of crayons. And I still love to color, only now I use adult crayons. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a fun family time at the Redskins park! I hope Riley is successful with his football team and hope he doesn't get injured.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your Magnolia projects! Great idea with the candy pencils.
My fave school supply to get each year was a Trapper Keeper...wonder if they still make those LOL!
OMG This lunch box is BEAUTIFUL!! and the pencil treat...

ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous back to school projects!!! :) I am going to have to make those adorable pencil Mentos (love us some Mentos in this house-especially the strawberry & green apple!)!
What AMAZING blog candy!!!!!!!!! Shhhhh-I shouldn't admit it, but I have yet to start my Magnolia Tilda collection (surprising, because she's such a little cutie...and I have a young daughter who would love her!)!
My favorite back to school supplies were my binder/organizer (I used to decorate it with wrapping paper! What I could have done with all the dp we have today...) and my planner (oh, the anticipation of filling it with things to learn and fun events!)! Yes, I was one of those crazies who loved to go back to school.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share and for the chance to win,
Jennifer

ReplyDeleteHugs
As always your creations are just gorgeous Suzanne! I've always been a sucker for nice paper and a good set of colouring pencils! That combination could keep me busy for hours!
ReplyDeleteYour project is just too cute. I am going to try to cut a lunchbox card to see if that might work also. Not as cute as your idea though. My favorite BTS item was always the new box of crayons. I usually only had a 24, but once I got the 96 and it was wonderful. Must be why I like Copics so much now. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne, your projects are so adorable. Thanks for joining us at Gingerloft Challenge.
