Six Degrees of Separation!!

Hi friends and Happy Thursday to you all!  Sorry I’ve been lax in posting but I guess I’ve gotten into this vacation thing and have managed to disconnect myself from my laptop, LOL.  Totally surprising but necessary I guess at times yes?  So I’m having a great time here in SC with my family---lots of beach days, pool days and finding fun places to eat dinner and yes a bit o’ shopping but of course.  The other day we spent in Beaufort which is beautiful and on the top of my list for places to move eventually here in SC—a great coastal small town.  We are going to Charleston soon and spending the night there—I love Charleston too!  The kids want to go to the Aquarium and I want to tour some of the historic sites and YEP some shopping too, hee hee!  If you’ve never been to SC it is worth the drive, plane ride, whatever---the weather is great and the people are super nice, I just love it!

Six Degrees of Separation!  You’ve heard of it right?  We are all separated by only 6 people/things/places in life and the more people I meet the more I believe in this!  I also am a HUGE believer in SIGNS—I see them everywhere and I try to find out why they are there.  So funny story for ya—I’m telling all of you because I know YOU all will understand, my family on the other hand just chalk it up to one of my many eccentricies, LMBO!  While we were in Maui this spring we were in this super cute shop in K’annapali where I bought this wristlet bag that holds money, id and your cell phone so I didn’t have to tote my huge purse around the islands KWIM.  As I’m loading it up with my stuffs I notice on the tag that it says Dafuskie Island, SC---WOW right?  I’m in Maui and I just bought something from one of my fave places on earth, so cool! (my family is like “whatever” at this point, lol).  So we get home and a week later I’m reading one of my fave magazines “Southern Living” and what is in it?  Yep an article on the people that own the company (Spartina 449 by the way is the name) and their new home they built on Dafuskie Island!  Another SIGN right? LOL!  I fly out of my bedroom and run down to the family room where everyone is and announce this---they just blink their eyes and laugh cuz’ they think I’m crazy for sure!  But to me THIS IS A SIGN I definitely need to move to SC---yes it really is!!  Sooooo the other day I’m in the pool reading a magazine called “Southern Lady” (yes do you see the theme here, lol) and who happens to be in it?  YEP—Spartina 449 again and GUESS WHATTTTTT?  I find out that the company they formerly owned was called (wait for it)………………………………K&Company!!!!  YES people that K&Company---one of my fave paper companies EVER!!!  Well now I know why I’m so drawn to the patterns on their bags (cuz yes I now own a few, just a few, hee hee---ask my friends Pat & Dana how many they own now too, LMBO)!  I have the bag below and quite a fewwwwwwwww of the other pieces that are in this line, LOL!
spartina1
Well they no longer own K&Company but I do love their bags and you can see them all HERE (in case you need any enabling by me, hee hee)!  So that is my story about SIGNS and how I think that my eventual move here to SC is pre-destined!  You all agree right?  I’m not really crazy (no I’m pretty sure I’m not most days) but my brain DOES work in odd ways me thinks but if you understand what I just said then you can be my BEST FRIEND too, hee hee!!!  So now my next course of action is to MEET the Spartina owners---I feel I NEED to meet them so perhaps another trip out to Dafuskie is in my future this week, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..

A Note-Book For U!!

So today is July 1st (how summer is flyin’ by huh) and that means its another fun Magnolia-licious DT Challenge!  This month our lovely hostess is the fabulous Mindy Baxter and she’s challenged us with a great sketch!  I decided to change things up a bit and NOT do a card this time.  I have a TON of these kraft notebooks in my craft closet that I bought at Target over a year ago and decided I needed to put one to good use!  So I flipped the sketch and used it on the front of my notebook that I made for a friend Smile   I'm calling her my lil' 4th of July Girl since the holiday is just a couple of days away---she's a Yankee Doodle Dandy Gardener, LOL!

You can find all the details on this challenge and how to play along (we sure hope you do) at the Magnolia-licious Highlites Blog!

I'm entering this project into the following challenges:

Blogger's Challenge (red, white & blue)
Card Makin' Mamas (red, white & blue)
Craft Us Crazy (red, white & blue)
Delightful Challenges (red, white & blue)
Rainbow Lady's Challenge Blog (red, white & blue)

I used one of the super cute NEW Magnolia stamps called “Watercan Tilda” from Magnolia-licious and the patterned paper is from Magnolia as well.  The paper is from the Sweet Rainbow collection HERE and is available in the larger size (like what I used) and the mini-sized too!  I love the color combo of aqua, red and white together—perfect for summer!  The white matting is a NEW Spellbinders die called “SDL Rectangles” and then I embossed the red oval with a Crafts Etc embossing folder (so cute as it has daisies on it)!  I layered bunches of Prima flowers and circled around the bottom of the frame.  The fab ribbon is from PTI and bow made with my Bow Easy.

Yep this cutie is colored with Copics R29,R24,R22,R20 / B06,B04,B02,B00 / E11,E00,R20 /E25,E31,E50.  Then I put Diamond Glaze on the watering can and Stickles on her hair flowers and white bouse.  Such a lil’ cutie!

For those celebrating the upcoming 4th of July weekend, have a SAFE and super FUN time and I’ll see you back here soon!!!

  3. ok, well here's another funny connection- your friend Jessica went to SC (Charleston), specifically this little shop ,don't EVEN remember the name of it on Kiawah Island and saw these bags. My kids were freaking out touching everything and we had dinner reservations so I reluctantly left w/out the bag, wrote down on a piece of paper what it was, and LOST it by the time I got home.

I have thought about that purse on and off for a year and now LOOK at what I find on my very good friend Suzanne Dean's blog today.... YAYYYYY! Time to shop, LOL!!! Thanks for posting this!

  9. Hello Suzanne,
tonight on the ferry ride home to Daufuskie Island my husband told me about your blog. I believe your friend was inquiring about some of our bags on our website and mentioned your blog. So I decided to check it out. Your story is so funny and I certainly got a kick out of it! It does sound like you are destined to move to South Carolina as you keep getting signs. We appreciate your excitement about our Spartina bags. After selling K&Company a few years ago I felt the need to keep using my creative side and came up with Spartina. Daufuskie is very beautiful and inspiring so it was just a perfect fit with this new endeavor. It looks like you are a creative person yourself so you may understand this. Thanks again for spreading the word about Spartina 449...it allows us to keep designing more which is so much fun for us. I understand you may be near Daufuskie right now so if you have time please let us know. Perhaps you can come visit us on D.I.

  19. Cheryl: They have all different sizes bags so I'm sure there is one to fit your needs. Go ahead, bite the bullet and buy your first Spartina bag. I did last month when Suzanne, Dana and I were together and I am loving it. In fact I'm off to buy more. LOL The problem is the one I want is out of stock right now on their website. Bummers.
