Dreaming in Fall Colors!!

Happy Thursday everyone! How are you doing this week? I swear after months of no rain we have been getting tons of it the past 10 days on & off here in VA! I have to say as much as we needed it, I'm soooo over it and wishing for blue skies!  My patio will NEVER be finished at this rate since they can't finish the electrical stuff in the rain, lol!  Glad most of you enjoyed my blah, blah, blah post--had to do something to fill the space, hee hee---probably more info than you EVER needed to know about me right?  I'm still in the midst of finishing the holiday edition of our magazine "Through the Craftroom Door" and prepping for my classes in DE this weekend so its a busy day today.  Gotta go to the post office and run some other boring errands as well including getting new black boots.  I realized my most favorite boots that are sooo comfortable and broken in (I've had them for years) have cracked in a few places so I must find a replacement---here's hoping its not a long quest, lol!  And to add to the stress my kids are acting CRAZY and one of them (by the name of Alexa) got herself grounded for the rest of the weekend---trust me, you don't want to know :) but let's just say I'm glad to get away for a few days.  The teenage years might just kill me for sure!

NewsBitz:

-Ok, sorry I'm late with this but I can only post this stuff up on certain days!  The winner of the "Bats 'n' Brooms" Blog Candy is LISA of "Land of enCraftment"!! Congrats Lisa--contact me for details!

-Just to clear up ANY CONFUSION, lol cuz' I get this A LOT!  Susana of Susana's Custom Art & Card Design is a SEPARATE PERSON from MEEEEE!  She is the store owner of SCACD and lives in CA!  I am the designer, owner of the Color Me Creative Classroom, Copic Videos, ScrapBitz and co-owner of Through the Craft Room Door Magazine!!  I know it can get confusing but just wanted to clear it up for you all---we're never offended by it though!  So I don't OWN a store, lol!

-The magazine is looking for some fun fall, winter or winter holiday submissions using the sketch below!  Get them to us by Oct 20th at craftdoor@yahoo.com !!  We're also looking for thank you cards, superbowl projects and anything homemade (sewing, cooking, woodworking, clay making & more)--come on, don't you want to see your names in lights?????  LOL!

Dreaming in Fall Colors!!

Yep today is the BIG DAY!!!  A Dual Release from two fab artists for Susana's Custom Art & Card Design---both Elisabeth Bell and Victoria Case have mini releases coming out today at the store!  And the SCACD DT has a fun Blog Hop to show off all the images for you--make sure to scroll all the way down to see who's next on the hop and maybe something sweet as well!  I got to work with Elisabeth Bell's for SCACD "First Leaf of Fall" image today from the Mini Sampler Edition #1 and I just adore it---check out Victoria Case's release "Mini Little Acorns Set" for SCACD HERE!

I have a fun copic challenge going on at my Color Me Creative Classroom's CMC Copic Challenge Group (anyone can join in on the fun here--you have to join the main site first tho') that features a monochromatic technique and the prizes are from SCACD.  The technique I used for the majority of my image was monochromatic--which means to take one color and use different tones of it (for this image it's E44,E43,E42,E41 & E40)!

So to keep the monochromatic theme going thru-out my card I used papers from Basic Grey's "Manilla" and "Kraft" paper pads--I love these pads and the fun, vintage patterns that are in them both.  The fall sentiment is from PTI's "Autumn Tags" set, pearls by Kaisercraft and the scrolls are from an EK Success punch.  All the edges got distressed with my Zutter Distress Tool which I of course loveeee!

My image is called "First Leaf of Fall" and colored with Copics, including the background and grass (I teach how to do these watercolored backgrounds in both my online copic classes & on the road classes)! Colors used:  E44,E43,E42,E41,E40/E11,E00,R20/E08,Y15,YR01,YR18).  I added some Stickles to the grass, her back pocket & collar and the leaves for sparkle!

The bow was made with my Bow Easy of course (I love that $5 tool sooo much)!  The flowers are layered cream Primas and orang flowers I punched with my Nellie Snellen punches  I inked the edges of all my flowers with my Inkssentials Foam Tool--it is awesome and I use it to ink the edges of my images as well for a soft, airbrushed look! The leaves were punched from the Basic Grey pattern paper, folded in half and then I inked the edges before adding them to the card.

A mini Blog Candy for you today if you answer this question "What scares you most??" (it can be a funny scare, movie scare or real-life scare)!  One winner will win a package of Prima flowers, an Inkssentials Blending Tool, a stamp (one) of your choice from SCACD and a pack each of the Basic Grey paper pads I used today!

Hope you enjoyed my post today and your next fun stop on the Blog Hop is KIM!!!

  2. Beautiful card! Although I don't like really scary movies, my biggest fear in real life is the water (think i almost drowned when i was little). Because of this, looking at sea creatures underwater just freaks me out. And living on an island w/o loving the water is just...plain weird to others, LOL.

  11. Suzanne, I love to look at all your creations. You make bland paper pop with your ideas.

I can not watch any scary thriller movies, I know it is make believe but I will have haunted nightmares for weeks. My husband and son think I am silly but just can't help it.

Thanks for a chance to win.

  14. Love your cards and your reading material, it's always so darn interesting. What scares me the most is that some day while I'm out gardening (we live in the town but there is an empty wooded lot behind our house) that some wild animal shows up. We've seen a bear, a moose, many deer, and I believe a coyote go through our yard, so anything is possible.

  15. Lovely colour combination & just a lovely stamp too. Have no Basic Grey at all so that is an ambition of mine to obtain some. What scares me - being suffocated - I was gassed having an operation as a child & I still remember fighting to breathe, I'm 50 now.

  16. I love this card! I love the softness of it. My biggest fear would have to be being rejected. I have so much more potential and have some awesome things going on, but I'm so afraid of sharing them with others because I'm afraid that I'm not good enough or my work isn't good enough. Anywho! I do love your card today so much!

  17. Hi Suzanne. Wonderful card! I just love how you have colored her and the color pallett is to die for...heehee I really love this. As for what scares me the most....Well I know I should say something funny or cute, but what really scares me is the thought that someone would take my children. The thought that someone might grab them up when they get off the bus and as they are walking home it just well too much for me. Wow even writing it freaks me out. That is why my DH (because he is home during the school day) has to walk the block and a half down to the buss stop to meet them everyday. Mind you our children are 12 and 13 and the bus stop is at their old elementary school that you can see from our front porch. Oh well, I guess you can only be who you are. In that case I am an over protective Mommy on Xanax. lmbo Anyway wonderful card. Hope you find your boots. Hugs, Lisa

  18. Really, really special card. I am usually afraid of monochromatic but this inspires me to try. Love your site and you always make me smile with the stories of your family.

This probably won't help, but as the Mom of three kids (in 3.5 years!) that survived those teenage years I can tell you "just hang in there"! Both my daughters were, nicely put, strong and independent and confident. All great traits for the adults they have become, but it did make 13 to 17 a "little" challenging! One is now the best mother you have ever seen, patient and caring, to her own daughter, another little spitfire! The other is almost done with her PhD in Chemical Engineering and the sweetest, most nurturing person I know. Hang in there, Suzanne.

As always, please keep sharing your art, you inspire me with this showcase of your incredible work.

  19. You do such a great job. TYSVM for this blog hop.

Now what scares me the most...... I guess it would have to be losing my wonderful husband, or children, or grandchildren. The thought of losing any of them scares me to death.

  20. Love your card. The colors are lovely. What scares me most is outliving my kids. I'm sure it's something every parent fears. I also have a problem with spiders & roaches. When I kill them I make loud noises (like "UGGGGHHHH" or "EEECCCHHH"). I can kill a snake w/o making a noise (probably b/c I'm afraid I'll scare them away), but I have to make those noises when I kill a spider or roach. Needless to say it's a family affair when I have to kill one b/c everyone comes running from all directions of the house to laugh at me.

What scares me most is when I have panic attacks I think I am going to die...very scary, but after so many years of dealing with them and I am here still kicking...I guess it's an irrational fear! Thank goodness :)

  24. Love your card Suzanne. What scares me most is being scared. Someone just appearing around the corner and saying hi!

  38. Love your project! The monochromatic really sets off the image nicely. I'm scared of a lot of things that I really don;t have a lot of control over so I try not to worry about them (like loosing one of my kids). Recently we bought some property and we found out there was a rattlesnake on the property. I was walking across the yard and heard a rattle. That was scary enough for me!

  39. Suzanne, your card is over the top gorgeous!! Let me see, I have 2 things I am absolutely scared of and that is heights...can't even get on a higher ladder and snakes!!! Living in Southern AZ we have lots of those....they give me the chills!! Hugs, Sabrina

  42. Beautiful card, Suzanne, as always. My fear is the one I've had since I saw the movie Psycho as a child - still to this day - I have a hard time taking a shower without my husband in the house - a bath is okay, but not a shower.

  43. Scary huh? Well, governments!! They seem to make decisions that really hurt a lot of people! They have NO idea what it is like to "live in the trenches"! Don't get me wrong, I love my life, but I think government decisions are detrimental to our well-being:)

  44. Beautiful card Suzanne! Love it and the image is gorgeous! Hmmm...what scares me the most?....ME, LOL! Sometimes I get crazy thoughts going through my head of getting into a car accident and my car going into water and I can't get my seatbelt off....or I have scary thoughts about something happening to my son...or I think I hear something when I'm up late working on a project. CRAZY, I know! Hugs, Rosemary

  54. Beautiful Card - I think I can't live without that stamp LOL
I am a big scaredy cat. I am afraid of all of the things already mentioned: drowning, burning in a fire, being in enclosed spaces, spiders, snakes, things that go "bump" in the night, something bad happening to a family member, cancer, flesh-eating bacteria, etc. But one thing I'm not afraid of is...teenage daughters! Trust me, my daughter is 20 now. They DO eventually grow up and stop driving you insane! This, too, shall pass, Suzanne! Hang in there! LOL

  56. Suzanne...just love this card! I so want to try the monochromatic but I'm sure I will wreck it=( The red you add to this pulls in just the right balnce to please the eye ane make you see her first...then everything else.
My greatest fear is really kind of weird. Since I've been a teenager I have been afraid of getting my eyes poked out by the rails that stick out in department stores. You know wheat I mean...we've all seen them, where they hand the clothes and other items for sale. When I'm in a store I give all of those things a wide berth!!!!
Also absolutely terrified of being caught in a fire.

  62. Now, that's a card right up my alley ... monochromatic! I dress, decorate and craft in monochromatic colors and it is truly my comfort zone. Your attention to every single detail is amazing!

As for what scares me, that would have to be SNAKES! Big, small, common garden or venomous ... doesn't matter ... I am terrified of any snake!

BTW - absolutely adorable "read" card. Reminds me of my daughter. Thanks!

  69. Wow Suzanne! I love the look of the E40s monochromatic technique and this little image is to die for! I love them all and really NEED them! LOL!
What really scares me is that I won't ever be a Gramdma with biological grandkids from my beautiful children! LOL! My daughter tells me she is never having kids, my middle son and his wife tell me they are not having anymore as she has a 12 year old daughter (she was 5 when they married), and my youngest son is to into his studies to even look at girls (he also needs to finish college before I really want him to). I love my granddaughter but would really love to see my darling kids eyes smiling back up at me!
